Many people appreciate art. But few people will agree on what constitutes real art. There is always great debate and discussion as everybody tends to have their own fixed idea on what they believe true art to be. For some, any hand crafted object is art, such as hand-made jewelery or custom Christmas ornaments by today's retailers. For others it is a far loftier and more formal definition such as the great masters or painters of the Renaissance.
Modern art also fires much discussion and opinion is firmly split on the value of some works of contemporary art, even those pieces which have won prizes. Traditionalists cannot believe that a pickled animal or unmade bed can be classed as true art, while others just adore it.
Art can take many forms as well as visual. It can be oral such as opera, music and entertainment and again everyone has their favourites. Some people might argue that the rap music cannot be an art form while others think that it is a perfect example of art. Or it can be written such as poetry and writing.
Art has to be fluid to account for all tastes. As well as being classed by type of art-form it can also be divided by period, as tastes do change over different centuries. Whilst many art forms do remain popular, some do go out of fashion.
